My name is Kendra Keenan, and I am an artist based in Sitges, Spain. I use mostly acrylic paint, and some watercolor and ink. I love adding pastel, oil pastel, glitter powder, paper and beach plastic when I am in the mood to create collage.

Collage speaks to me quite often as, like my own spiritual and human development, I can add and subtract as I see fit, as I learn to let go, or adapt. My work thrives on contradiction: rendering the heavy realities of death and grief in the soft, cheerful pastels of a birthday party.

My curiosity about death goes beyond the word itself and the reactions it triggers; it is a raw gateway to living more fully. Recently, my creative purpose has shifted toward normalizing death—treating it not as a shadow to fear, but as a subject to be openly explored.

Canvas
My works on canvas here range from peek-a-boo worlds where connection takes place: if you seek then you shall find. I invite viewers to consider doorways as a way to stay connected to souls who have “passed on”, and welcome them to magical forests where I find and create the same magic my son Jonas brought
into my life.
Mix Media on Canvas
I use beach plastic, mostly uncut to show uniqueness or how tiny they appear on our shores— to create playful images or environmental statements. On a more provocative side, I also create doorways out of found beach plastic merging the repurposing with the reconnecting. If I create a door, then I can open it. If I open a door, a new world appears. If a new world appears, anything is possible. If anything is possible, I can connect with Jonas and anyone else who may appear when called.
Work on Paper
The paper is immersed in the work, becoming the work itself- having taken up some of the paint and influenced the shape and intensity of the colors. Paper is a collaborator, flexible and forgiving. Most of the work on paper here is a part of an exploration in movement and flow and connection: how fish gather in shoals or schools and move in unison; how bubbles are moving portals, inviting you into a new world that disappears fast; and connecting to feelings of grief, as shown in the paper leaves of the ‘Grief Tree’.
